Family Therapy

Each family member living within your household may have a positive or negative influence in supporting change. I use a strength-based approach where your family’s culture and the intersection of related cultures are valued and respected within the therapeutic process. Family sessions are designed for each family member to express their perspective, engage in shared responsibility for change and participate in constructing goals for therapy.

Families seeking enhanced communication, closer relationships with each other or a safe space to explore familial/relational problems can benefit from family therapy.

Common reasons for seeking family therapy include:

  • Divorce
  • Involuntary separation from a loved one
  • Parent-child conflict
  • Problems between siblings
  • Relationship violence
  • The unexpected loss of a family member
  • Help cope with a traumatic experience

If any of the above predicaments resonate with your family, consider seeking family therapy. It can help members reconcile a range of issues and it can provide an environment where these problems are processed therapeutically.

Some positive family therapy outcomes are:

  • Strategies to develop and maintain boundaries
  • Fostered sense of cohesion and communication among family members
  • Promotes problem-solving through an understanding of family patterns and dynamics over time
  • Builds empathy and understanding.
  • Reduces family conflict

Studies show that family therapy is important for families with members who struggle with substance abuse, eating disorders and other behavioral issues. When the whole family grows in understanding, each member is strengthened through the process: It is a family affair.
